The problem

The important details are the first ones you forget

Decisions, dates, commitments, warnings, and next steps live in conversations — and slip away minutes after they end.

Memory fails fast

What was agreed, promised, or flagged is easy to misremember the moment the meeting or appointment is over.

Note-taking pulls you out

You can be present in the conversation or scribbling notes — rarely both at the same time.

Cloud vaults add risk

Most tools park your private recordings in a vendor cloud by default — uncomfortable for medical, legal, vendor, and client talks.

How it works

Three steps. Your phone does the work.

1

Record the conversation

Tap record using your iPhone — no separate gadget. A visible active-recording state and consent reminder keep it transparent.

2

Choose a brief type

Start with the Discovery Brief — built for sales and client conversations — and the app extracts exactly the sections that matter. More brief types are on the way.

3

Own and export the brief

Review the structured report, then save it to storage you control. You choose whether to keep or delete the source recording afterward — nothing is stockpiled on a server, because it was never on one.

Reporting profiles

Built for in-person client and discovery conversations — with more on the roadmap

Each profile extracts the sections that actually matter for that situation. The Discovery Brief ships at launch. The rest are on the roadmap — not available yet.

The difference

The capture layer — not a permanent vault

Most AI meeting tools keep your recordings, transcripts, and history forever. Before You Forget does the opposite: it captures, analyzes, hands you the brief, and lets go.

It never leaves your phone

Recording, transcription, and analysis all run on your iPhone using Apple's on-device intelligence. Your conversation is never uploaded to our servers — there's no cloud copy for us to leak, retain, or train on, because we never receive it in the first place. You decide whether to keep or delete the source recording after your brief is built.

You choose the storage

Export the finished brief to where you already keep your work. Your conversation, your report type, your storage.

No extra hardware

Your iPhone is the recorder. No Plaud, no Pocket, nothing else to buy, charge, or carry.

Recording, transcription, and analysis all happen on your iPhone using Apple's on-device intelligence — your conversation is never uploaded, so there's no cloud copy to leak, retain, or train on. This requires Apple's on-device intelligence, available on iPhone 15 Pro and newer.

Because every conversation is processed on your iPhone and never sent to the cloud, Before You Forget needs Apple's on-device intelligence in iPhone 15 Pro and newer.

Don't take our word for it

Put our privacy promise in Airplane Mode.

If your conversation never leaves your iPhone, the app should work with no connection at all. So test it: switch on Airplane Mode and use it end to end.

1
Turn on Airplane Mode. No Wi-Fi, no cellular — nothing can reach a server.
2
Record, and get your Discovery Brief. Recording, transcription, and analysis all run on your iPhone — they keep working.
3
Save it to your phone. The finished brief saves to your device. Everything worked. Nothing was sent.

The one thing Airplane Mode stops is sending the brief off your phone — emailing it, or syncing it to a cloud you choose. That was always your call, on your command — not a step that runs behind your back. Works once the app is installed; the on-device intelligence needs no connection to do its job.

What's inside

Built for conversations where details matter

Ready-to-send follow-ups

Walk away with a drafted follow-up message or email — straight from the conversation, ready to send.

Structured extraction

Summaries, red flags, risks, decisions, to-dos, and follow-ups — not a wall of transcript.

One-tap recording

Start, pause, resume, and stop — with the recording state always visible.

Profile-based briefs

Purpose-built extraction tuned to the conversation type — starting with the Discovery Brief, with more on the way.

Flexible export

Send briefs to the storage and tools you already use.

Privacy by design

Everything runs on your iPhone — nothing uploaded — with consent built in.

How it compares

Most tools keep your conversations. We hand them back.

The category is cloud meeting vaults and always-on wearables. Before You Forget is the only one where your iPhone captures, you get a structured brief, and the raw recording is yours to keep or gone — and nothing's listening in the background.

Compiled June 2026 from public pricing and product pages; plans change often. As of June 2026: Limitless hardware was discontinued after Meta's December 2025 acquisition; Amazon announced its acquisition of Bee in July 2025. Note: Plaud is genuinely strong on privacy compliance — our edge is the default delete-by-design posture and mobile-first form factor, not a certification scorecard. AI meeting note-takers have also drawn privacy litigation over recording consent and training-data use — e.g. the consolidated Otter.ai wiretap suits (In re Otter.AI Privacy Litigation, N.D. Cal., 2025) and a Fireflies.ai biometric-privacy suit (Cruz v. Fireflies.AI, 2025); both are pending and the allegations have not been proven.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Do you store my recordings?

No — we never even receive them. Everything happens on your iPhone: your audio and transcript are never uploaded to us or anyone else. After your brief is built and exported, you choose whether to keep or delete the source on your device.

Do you train models on my conversations?

No. Your conversation is processed on your iPhone and never reaches our servers, so there is nothing for us to train on — now or ever.

Does the app use the cloud?

No. It uses Apple's on-device intelligence, and we never fall back to the cloud. That's the whole point — and it's why the app needs iPhone 15 Pro or newer.

Can I check it's really all on my phone?

Yes — and we encourage it. Turn on Airplane Mode, then record and generate a brief: recording, transcription, and analysis all run on your iPhone, so it works with no connection at all, and the brief saves to your device. The only thing Airplane Mode stops is sending a brief off your phone (email or cloud sync) — which only ever happens on your command. If nothing can reach a server, there's nothing for us to receive.

Where are you deleting from?

There's nothing to delete from a server — your conversation never leaves your iPhone. Recording, transcription, and analysis all happen on-device, so there's no cloud copy in the first place. When you export your brief, you can remove the source recording and transcript from your phone too — that part is your call, not automatic.

Which iPhones does it work on?

It runs Apple's on-device intelligence directly on your device — built into iPhone 15 Pro and newer (iPhone 15 Pro / Pro Max and every iPhone 16 and 17 model). It won't run on the standard iPhone 15, iPhone 14, or older, because those can't do on-device intelligence — and we never fall back to the cloud.

Do I need a separate recording device?

No. Your iPhone is the recorder — there's nothing extra to buy, charge, or carry, unlike hardware-based tools.

What kinds of conversations is this for?

At launch it's built for solo service professionals after in-person discovery and client meetings — the Discovery Brief turns the conversation into a structured brief plus a ready-to-send follow-up. More conversation types (project, vendor, appointment, general) are on the roadmap as we add profiles.

Can it record phone calls?

It's built for in-person, in-the-room conversations. iOS restricts third-party apps from recording regular phone calls, so Before You Forget focuses on the conversations happening in front of you.

Can I use it without internet?

Yes. Because recording, transcription, and analysis all run on-device, the app works fully offline — no connection needed at any step.

What happens if a recording is interrupted?

If a call comes in or the app is backgrounded, your captured audio so far stays safe on your device, so you don't lose what was already recorded before the interruption.

Is there a limit to how long I can record?

There's no artificial time limit — in practice the main constraint is the free storage on your iPhone, since the recording stays on your device while you capture it. Before You Forget is built for real conversations like discovery and client meetings, so it's tuned for typical meeting lengths rather than recording all day.

Does it work with my Voice Memos or Apple Notes transcripts?

Not at launch — Before You Forget records and processes the conversation itself rather than importing from other apps. Importing existing audio or transcripts is something we may add later.

How do the brief types work?

You choose a reporting profile before or after recording. Each profile extracts the sections relevant to that conversation — for example, "red flags" and "questions before you agree" for vendor calls.

Where do my briefs end up?

Wherever you choose. Export the finished brief to the storage and apps you already use, so your data stays in your hands.

Do I need consent to record?

Sometimes — and it's good practice either way. The rules vary by location: many places let anyone in a conversation record it, but some (parts of the US, much of the EU, and elsewhere) require everyone's consent first, so making sure you have consent where it's required is your responsibility. We'd encourage asking regardless — it's more respectful, and it's in the spirit of the app. iOS also shows its own orange recording indicator whenever the mic is on, so recording is never hidden. This isn't legal advice — if you're unsure of the rules where you are, check your local laws.

Never lose the important part of a conversation again
