The problem

The important details are the first ones you forget

Decisions, dates, commitments, warnings, and next steps live in conversations — and slip away minutes after they end.

Memory fails fast

What was agreed, promised, or flagged is easy to misremember the moment the meeting or appointment is over.

Note-taking pulls you out

You can be present in the conversation or scribbling notes — rarely both at the same time.

Cloud vaults add risk

Most tools park your private recordings in a vendor cloud by default — uncomfortable for medical, legal, vendor, and client talks.

How it works

Three steps. Your phone does the work.

1

Record the conversation

Tap record using your iPhone — no separate gadget. A visible active-recording state and consent reminder keep it transparent.

2

Choose a brief type

Start with the Discovery Brief — built for sales and client conversations — and the app extracts exactly the sections that matter. More brief types are on the way.

3

Own and export the brief

Review the structured report, then save it to storage you control. The raw audio and transcript are processed and deleted, not stockpiled.

Reporting profiles

One app, the right brief for every conversation

Each profile extracts the sections that actually matter for that situation. The Discovery Brief is available at launch — more are on the way.

The difference

The capture layer — not a permanent vault

Most AI meeting tools keep your recordings, transcripts, and history forever. Before You Forget does the opposite: it captures, analyzes, hands you the brief, and lets go.

It never leaves your phone

Recording, transcription, and analysis all run on your iPhone using Apple's on-device AI. Your conversation is never uploaded — to us or anyone else — so there's no cloud copy to leak, subpoena, retain, or train on.

You choose the storage

Export the finished brief to where you already keep your work. Your conversation, your report type, your storage.

No extra hardware

Your iPhone is the recorder. No Plaud, no Pocket, nothing else to buy, charge, or carry.

Recording, transcription, and analysis all happen on your iPhone using Apple's on-device AI — your conversation is never uploaded, so there's no cloud copy to leak, retain, or train on. This requires Apple's on-device AI, available on iPhone 15 Pro and newer.

What's inside

Built for conversations where details matter

One-tap recording

Start, pause, resume, and stop — with the recording state always visible.

Structured extraction

Summaries, red flags, risks, decisions, to-dos, and follow-ups — not a wall of transcript.

Ready-to-send follow-ups

Get a drafted follow-up message or email straight from the conversation.

Profile-based briefs

Purpose-built extraction tuned to the conversation type — starting with the Discovery Brief, with more on the way.

Flexible export

Send briefs to the storage and tools you already use.

Privacy by design

Everything runs on your iPhone — nothing uploaded — with consent built in.

How it compares

Most tools keep your conversations. We hand them back.

The category is cloud meeting vaults and always-on wearables. Before You Forget is the only one where your iPhone captures, you get a structured brief, and the raw recording is yours to keep or gone.

Compiled June 2026 from public pricing and product pages; plans change often. Limitless hardware was discontinued after Meta's 2025 acquisition; Amazon acquired Bee in 2026. Note: Plaud is genuinely strong on privacy compliance — our edge is the default delete-by-design posture and mobile-first form factor, not a certification scorecard. AI meeting note-takers have also drawn privacy litigation over recording consent and training-data use — e.g. the consolidated Otter.ai wiretap suits (In re Otter.AI Privacy Litigation, N.D. Cal., 2025) and a Fireflies.ai biometric-privacy suit (Cruz v. Fireflies.AI, 2025); both are pending and the allegations have not been proven.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Do you store my recordings?

No — we never even receive them. Everything happens on your iPhone: your audio and transcript are never uploaded to us or anyone else. After your brief is built and exported, the source is deleted from your device.

Where are you deleting from?

There's nothing to delete from a server — your conversation never leaves your iPhone. Recording, transcription, and analysis all happen on-device, so there's no cloud copy in the first place. When you export your brief, the source recording and transcript are removed from your phone too.

Which iPhones does it work on?

It runs Apple's AI directly on your device, which needs the A17 Pro chip — so it works on iPhone 15 Pro and newer (iPhone 15 Pro / Pro Max and every iPhone 16 and 17 model). It won't run on the standard iPhone 15, iPhone 14, or older, because those can't do on-device AI — and we never fall back to the cloud.

Do I need a separate recording device?

No. Your iPhone is the recorder — there's nothing extra to buy, charge, or carry, unlike hardware-based tools.

What kinds of conversations is this for?

Anywhere details matter: project and client meetings, vendor and contractor calls, appointments, school meetings, and personal admin conversations.

How do the brief types work?

You choose a reporting profile before or after recording. Each profile extracts the sections relevant to that conversation — for example, "red flags" and "questions before you agree" for vendor calls.

Where do my briefs end up?

Wherever you choose. Export the finished brief to the storage and apps you already use, so your data stays in your hands.

Is recording consent handled?

The app shows a visible active-recording indicator and a consent reminder. You're responsible for following the recording laws in your jurisdiction.
